The Go Media Stars have added more excitement to their shooting circle with the signing of new Silver Ferns shooter Martina Salmon for the 2026 ANZ Premiership season.
Salmon joins the Stars after rocketing to prominence with a breakout year at the Pulse in 2024 and then helping the Tactix to a maiden ANZ Premiership title in 2025, which earned her a maiden call up to the Silver Ferns squad.
“It’s been pretty crazy. I can’t believe how the last two years have gone to be honest. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had at the Pulse and Tactix. I had a break and wanted to rediscover that passion for netball again and the things I’ve achieved since playing in the ANZ Premiership have been amazing.” Salmon said.
“I’m grateful for everything I’ve learnt and want to continue to grow and soak everything in when I’m in Auckland.”
Salmon is capable of sinking shots from all over the shooting circle and will be a strong option for Stars coach Temepara Bailey at two-point super shot time.
Salmon’s flair and precision saw her selected for the Fast5 Ferns in 2024 – where she set the tournament alight with some sparkling play.
“I would say I’m a confident player and I back myself and work well under pressure. I trust my gut and my shot when I play and utilise my strengths on the court.” Salmon explained.
The 21-year-old was born in Auckland, before moving to Australia at a young age and returning to New Zealand to chase her netball dream.
“Most of my family grew up in Onehunga and I’ve got a lot of family around that area and South Auckland so I’m basically coming home!” Salmon added.
“I can’t wait to get out amongst the community. I’m Samoan and Tongan myself and I know there’s a lot more Pasifika people in Auckland, so being able to be around my culture and serve the community is really exciting.”
Immersing herself in the Stars environment is another thing Salmon is looking forward to.
“I love the Stars culture after seeing it from the outside and love how connected the girls are and I just want to be a part of that.”
“Seeing how connected the playing group is even after some tough results last season and the strong values they uphold is really cool.”
